STUDIO DONEGAL Echoes of the Glen Large Throw - Umiskin 180x150cm

The design of this throw depicts the landscape of the Glen of Balladoo here in Kilcar, a patchwork of fields and meadows, with a river running through the centre, a glen surrounded by hills and mountains, a glen that echoes with the sound of traditional music during the summer and an event called The Echoes of the Glen.

On calm summer evenings many moons ago, Kate Bonner would take her melodeon outside, she would sit on the stone wall outside her cottage in the townland of Umiskan and she would play. The sound would echo across the glen. On the far side of the glen in the townland of Cilcausey lived Christy McShane, a piper in the Kilcar pipe band. He would take out his pipes and answer Kates tune. Every summer, during the week of the Kilcar Fleadh Ceol (music festival), musicians gather  on both sides of the glen to recreate the sounds of long ago, an evening of music and dance, echoing across the glen, a celebration of the musicians of the past.
